L.A. Archdiocese Approves
Record Abuse Settlement

Mahoney02The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to settle its clergy abuse cases for 660 million dollars. This settlement will address over 500 cases of abuse involving priests in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

The agreement includes the turning over of all confidential accused priest records for public review.

Cardinal Roger Mahony announced that some church property will be sold in an effort to pay the abuse settlements. The majority of the settlements would come from insurers (dozens). Some Religious Orders would also contribute to the settlement.
